Here's two guaranteed fun-filled days out for children coming to Manot area: MonkeyWorld (or Vallée des Singes) and Futuroscope.

MonkeyWorld is a unique collection of over 350 different types of monkeys, chimps, guerillas and baboons all allowed to roam with plenty of freedom amongst the French countryside. The park is part tourist attraction and part conservation project, with over 30 new births in the year 2007 alone. Video footage shows the park in action.

MonkeyWorld is an hour's drive to the north of Manot.

Futuroscope is just the thing for any budding Einsteins or Richard Attenboroughs in your family. A celebration of the natural world, science and technology, this theme-park-of-sorts features 25 "experiences" designed to inform, educate and entertain. Alongside a giant IMAX 3D cinema featuring tales from the deepest oceans, you're also invited to explore the Vienne region of France by train, hang-glider and Formula 3 car in a crazy rock and roll ride hosted by Guerliguet, the mischievous tree goblin.

If you like the sound of that, then you're sure to have a good time! Futuroscope is located in Poitiers which is about a 1.5 hour trip by car. See our Google Map for details.

The entrance to OradourThe 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich destroyed the French village of Oradour during WW2 and today it is preserved exactly as it was left by the Germans. This year, it's 70 years since the start of WW2 and this local attraction is a poignant reminder of the struggles of ordinary people during the conflict.

The accompanying museum provides a historic context to what happened at Oradour complete with first hand accounts, maps, photographs and findings from the site.

Great for showing your kids some "real history" and to discover some for yourself too.
Oradour is located to the east of Manot and is about a 40 minute drive.

Confolens PosterMusic fans from around the world gather in Confolens - our local town - every year for the Festival de Confolens. The festival is one of the summer's biggest attractions in this region of France and this year's is no exception.

For a week in August, Confolens explodes into a spectacle of colour, sound and dance as artists from five continents celebrate their own local musical traditions. Video of previous festivals illustrates just how exciting the festival gets!

Unfortunately the Barn is now fully booked for August but we do have availability in the House, so you'd better get cracking!
